Elise Dufour

Hand built ceramic … crafted one piece at the time, in my studio on the beach on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada.

Drawing inspiration from natural elements, my clay work is instinctive, unconstricted and transcends the limitations of the more restrictive and conventional notions of art or design.

My work follows the practice of Wabi Sabi ... a philosophy that embraces the celebration of perfect imperfections … where the “Art of accident” is seen as a creative opportunity.

Recently re-located to the South Shore of Nova Scotia. My reinvention journey as a ceramist artist started in 2018 after moving from the east coast to the west coast of Canada. Guided by the aesthetic sensibility shaped by 30 years of corporate executive work in the beauty business, transitioned naturally into art inspired by the unique landscape of the west coast. Like the flow of the tides, my ceramic work naturally evolved to find its beauty in its simplicity and authenticity.

Each piece is unique, created and painted by hand in my studio. The shape, design and lightness of my functional ceramic is organic and inspired by nature. Yet contemporary with unique character and the subtle traces of the ceramist maker. Each one of my ceramic pieceswill enhance your home with their uniqueness.

In a culture with the surfeit of branding and mass-produced goods, we gravitate towards the handmade not just for it’s exclusivity but for how it makes us feel.
